Arachnophobia is a well known fear and is typically associated with large, scary looking spiders like tarantulas and huntsman. In the UK, spiders tend to be on the less scary side, however that doesn’t mean that they can’t cause problems when an infestation takes hold in your property.
The 600+ species of spiders found in the UK are not usually dangerous and few bite humans. If a spider does bite there is unlikely to be a significant reaction, although the venom may cause problems in exceptional circumstances.
Spiders are most likely to enter the home in the Autumn months, when the weather starts to get colder. Although they are more of a nuisance than a threat to health or the integrity of the building, the presence of spiders and their webs is not ideal, particularly with those with a fear of these arachnids. Regular vacuuming and filling cracks can prevent spiders from building a home in yours or professional pest controllers can quickly deal with the problem.
